Let’s go out to eat! 🍽️

This role-playing activity puts students in a fun restaurant scenario where they can practice speaking English in a real-life situation. One student acts as the waiter and the others as customers, using simple scripts to order food, ask for the bill, and be polite!

The activity includes printable menus, dialogue cards, and instruction sheets to make it easy for teachers and fun for learners.

How to use it in class:

  • Print and hand out the restaurant menus and dialogue prompts (included in the link).
  • Divide students into groups of 3 or 4 — one waiter and two or three customers.
  • Encourage students to act it out, using expressions like:
“Can I take your order?”

“I’d like a sandwich, please.”

“Here is your food.”

“Can I have the bill, please?”

  • After each round, let students switch roles.

Why it’s useful:

It helps students gain confidence speaking English in everyday situations while practicing food vocabulary, polite expressions, and sentence structure.

🎉 Bonus idea: Set up a mini classroom “restaurant” with signs, tablecloths, or fake money to make the experience even more exciting!
